University College Dublin researchers, led by Prof. Browne, have shown in their recent open access paper that some metallic glass alloys have excellent optical properties, including diffuse and spectral reflectance of broad-spectrum light. These can be coated as thin films onto robust low thermal expansion substrates, and are suitable for use as mirrors e.g. for space telescopes. Tetra Materials can work with interested partners to develop scratch-resistant optical mirrors for a range of applications, including in precision engineering and micro-optical systems.
